Mittagong Station Upgrade

The Mittagong Station Upgrade provides a safer, more accessible, and modernised experience for all users, aligning with the government’s vision for a more inclusive transport network. This upgrade formed part of the Transport for NSW Transport Access Program (TAP)

This a busy station with lots of pedestrian movement and commuters, so the upgrades and additional features installed  have provided the community with a station precinct that is accessible to everyone, including those with a disability or limited mobility and customers with prams and luggage.
Throughout the project, the station remained open and fully functional to ensure minimal impact on commuters and staff.
The safety of the station was also significantly enhanced. The existing footbridge stairs were upgraded with compliant handrails, tactile ground surface indicators, and stair nosings to improve accessibility and safety. Wayfinding signage, upgraded CCTV, and improved lighting were installed to further increase security and usability for all passengers.
Key works completed included the installation of two lifts at each end of the existing footbridge, greatly enhancing accessibility. Amenities were improved with the addition of an ambulant and family-accessible toilet, while external infrastructure upgrades included a formal bus stop, compliant accessible car spaces, and a dedicated kiss-and-ride zone
