Broadmeadow Train Maintenance Centre
Degnan delivered facility upgrades at the Broadmeadow Train Maintenance Centre for Sydney Trains, replacing key roofing and building infrastructure across maintenance Roads 1, 2 and 3.
The works built on Degnan’s previous delivery at Broadmeadow, including upgrades to the Roundhouse completed in 2006 to support the storage of heritage trains.
Integrating building services and safety systems
The upgrade required several elements of the existing facility to be addressed as part of the roofing works, including HVAC equipment, electrical lines, insulation, safety netting, roof access infrastructure and fall-arrest systems.
Existing roof access walkways were reused, while individual fall-arrest attachment points and associated wires were replaced. Access walkways were also provided above office and store areas to reduce buckling of the roof sheeting.
Upgrading critical maintenance infrastructure
The project involved the removal and replacement of roofing and associated infrastructure over maintenance Roads 1, 2 and 3, together with minor repairs to other areas of the Broadmeadow Maintenance Centre roof.
Works included replacement of roof sheeting, gutters, fascia purlins, insulation and flashings, along with HVAC fans, vents and louvres.
Continuing Degnan’s work at Broadmeadow
The project continued Degnan’s earlier involvement at the Broadmeadow precinct. In 2006, Degnan completed upgrades to the Broadmeadow Roundhouse to enable the storage of heritage trains.
Returning to deliver the maintenance centre facility upgrade provided another opportunity to contribute to infrastructure supporting Sydney Trains’ operations at Broadmeadow.
