Westconnex New M5 Motorway Operations

Degnan was engaged to undertake the  construction of the new MOC5 Motorway Control Centre and Substation within the Burrows Road motorway operations complex. The project involved extensive works, including site establishment and preparation, structural construction, and fit-out.

The Motorway Control Centre building progressed systematically from west to east, with ground-floor to first-floor columns poured before placing the top reinforcement for suspended slabs. The substation envelope was completed to a watertight stage, including roofing, cladding, doors, roller shutters, louvres, and external finishes, ensuring durability and compliance with operational requirements.
Fit-Out  involved installing high-level services  for the data and office areas.
This project had a comprehensive scope of works and was successfully delivered and highlights Degnan’s expertise in delivering complex, high-specification infrastructure projects efficiently and to a high standard.
The initial works included scrabbling and cleaning footing beams, constructing pile caps, and preparing lift pit slabs for walls and columns. Excavation and preparation of the subgrade for the Motorway Control Centre building were completed, with precise trimming to falls. Stormwater drainage was installed, connecting pits effectively. Structural steel was erected in Areas 1 and 2, with precast panels placed as part of the substructure.
Building Envelope involved the installation of insulated wall panels, using mobile cranes, franna lifts, and knuckle booms. Modular panels and roof sheeting were installed with precision.
