More Trains More Services
The More Trains, More Services program has transformed Sydney’s busiest train lines with more services through digital systems, infrastructure upgrades, and additional new trains.
As part of the MTMS works, to accommodate changes to operations on the T4 line, station upgrades were carried out to ensure customers received an increased level of safety and comfort. One of the major features of the upgrades included extending the platform canopy to enable better passenger spread along the platform, reduce dwell times, and improve timetable reliability

Arncliffe Station Canopy Extension
Degnan in line with Heritage NSW conditions and requirements have extended the platform canopies at Arncliffe Station on platform 3 and 4, these new canopies have been constructed to encourage commuters to use the full length of the platform in all weather conditions, to ease platform congestions during busy times.
In addition to the canopy extension, additional seating and CCTV, lighting and public announcement systems and digital information boards have been installed.
Arncliffe Station is one of the few remaining original buildings in the metropolitan area and one of the best examples of suburban station architecture from the boom period of railway construction between 1870 and 1880.
Arncliffe Station was designed as the first major station on the Illawarra Line. The station, originally known as the Illawarra Road Station.
Wolli Creek Station Canopy Extension
Degnan was engaged by TfNSW to install new canopy extensions on platforms 3 and 4 at Wolli Creek Station, with a distance of approximately 56 m at the northern end and 54.8 m at the southern end.
The scope of works included construction of new canopies along platforms 3 and 4, modifications to lighting, CCTV, PA systems, and stormwater drainage, and regrading and resurfacing areas of the platforms. The works also included the installation of new emergency help points in the canopy areas, provision of new operational LED lighting, emergency lighting, and exit signs, modifications to existing racks in the communications room to accommodate upgraded station systems—including the audio frequency induction loop system—installation of relevant signage to the impacted areas, and provision of station passenger information including bird proofing. All heritage-listed station amenities were retained, and new station amenities were provided within the canopy areas, with footings designed to avoid clashes with existing and relocated infrastructure and services below the platform surface. Additional works included replacement of landscaping in the four existing garden beds on platforms 3 and 4, and application of anti-graffiti coating to all new and existing hard surfaces prone to vandalism, up to a height of 3 m above foot level.
All works were carried out in a live rail environment, with the station remaining fully operational throughout. This required detailed planning and close coordination with station staff. All heritage values of the station were maintained in accordance with the client’s requirements.
