Degnan has delivered complex substation and power infrastructure projects, combining civil, structural and electrical expertise to support critical network capacity.
Delivered within a constrained and contaminated environment, the project required careful planning and multidisciplinary coordination across civil works, substation buildings, electrical infrastructure, services, security and environmental controls.
Managing a Constrained & Contaminated Environment
Construction was undertaken within a constrained site adjacent to critical operational infrastructure. Bulk earthworks, excavation, compaction and remediation activities required careful management to meet regulatory, environmental and geotechnical requirements.
This is a strong section because it demonstrates the actual complexity rather than simply saying the project was complex.
Safety & Environmental Management
Safety and environmental management remained central throughout delivery, with contamination controls, electrical safety measures, earth grid installation, lightning protection and environmental safeguards incorporated into the works.
These measures supported compliance while protecting surrounding assets and contributing to the future operational reliability of the infrastructure.
Delivering Critical Power Infrastructure
The project comprised four complete 132/11kV substations, each incorporating a main switch and transformer yard with precast blast walls, switch rooms and control rooms.
Civil, structural, building, electrical and services packages were coordinated to deliver the infrastructure required to support current operations and future network capacity.
Integrating Power, Services & Systems
The works incorporated underground services, earthing systems, lightning protection, cable containment and security infrastructure, together with architectural finishes.
Civil, structural, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical services were delivered concurrently, requiring detailed planning and coordination to manage interfaces and maintain programme certainty.
Supporting Critical Network Capacity
The completed substations provide critical infrastructure supporting current operations and future network capacity.
