Substation Delivery
Degnan has delivered complex substation and power infrastructure projects, combining civil, structural and electrical expertise to support critical network capacity.
Degnan has delivered four new 132/11kV substations to support existing operations and future network capacity. The project combined complex civil, structural, building, electrical and services works within a constrained, contaminated environment, requiring careful planning, coordination and rigorous safety and environmental management from start to finish.
Managing a Complex Environment
Construction was undertaken with limited available space and adjacent to critical operational infrastructure. Bulk earthworks, excavation, compaction and remediation activities were carefully managed to meet regulatory, environmental and geotechnical requirements while maintaining safe and efficient project delivery.
Project Scope
The project included construction of four complete substations, each incorporating a main switch and transformer yard with precast blast walls, switch rooms and control rooms. Degnan also delivered all associated civil works, underground services, earthing systems, lightning protection, cable containment, security infrastructure and architectural finishes.
Integrated Delivery
The project required close coordination across multiple disciplines and stakeholders. Civil, structural, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical services were delivered concurrently, supported by detailed planning and proactive coordination to resolve clashes, manage interfaces and maintain programme certainty.
Safety and Environmental Performance
Safety and environmental management remained central throughout delivery. Extensive contamination controls, electrical safety measures, earth grid installation, lightning protection and environmental safeguards were implemented to support compliance while protecting surrounding assets and enabling future operational reliability.
Project Outcomes
The completed substations provide critical infrastructure to support both current operations and future growth. Through careful planning, technical expertise and collaborative delivery, Degnan successfully delivered a complex infrastructure project that met client requirements while overcoming significant site and construction challenges.
