Guildford Station – Easy Access
Degnan delivered significant accessibility improvements at Guildford Station, including a new footbridge, two lift towers and upgraded customer facilities. The works were completed around an operating railway, requiring careful staging and specialised construction methods to maintain safety and minimise impacts on rail operations.

Building Above an Operating Railway
Much of the work was undertaken in and around the operating railway, requiring specialised methods to construct the new footbridge across the rail corridor. Degnan designed and constructed a catch scaffold arrangement to provide protection from the overhead wiring and operating trains
Carefully Planned Rail Possessions
The installation and removal of the catch scaffold, along with the installation of the bridge beams, were completed during planned weekend rail possessions. Careful planning and coordination allowed these critical activities to be undertaken within the available possession periods.

Improving Station Accessibility
The upgrade included a new footbridge, two lift towers and new stairs constructed from concrete and prefabricated structural steel. Glazed screens, new awnings and the coordination of the lift installation were also delivered as part of the project.

Supporting Station Infrastructure
The wider scope included an upgrade to the station’s high-voltage power supply and miscellaneous alterations to existing buildings. Throughout delivery, the Degnan team worked to stringent safety, environmental and quality requirements
