Leading IS Design Rating for Towradgi Station Upgrade

As part of the third tranche of TfNSW’s Transport Access Program (TAP 3), Degnan’s Towradgi Station Upgrade Project has been certified as Leading under the IS Design rating!

TfNSW’s Transport Access Program seeks to improve access to public transport for those with disability, those with limited mobility, parents with prams, and customers with luggage. The Towradgi Station Upgrade includes construction of a new footbridge, lifts, stairs, and station landscaping. The project will improve accessibility for those with additional mobility requirements and station amenity for the whole community.

In collaboration with TfNSW and with the support of the design team, SMEC and Design Inc, the project has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability. Highlights include:

–       Lifecycle resource use reductions; 25% reduction in GHG emissions, 18% reduction in water consumption, and 6% Enviropoint reduction in materials impacts
–       The implementation of self-sustaining solar lighting poles in landscaped areas to contribute to energy reductions
–       In collaboration with the University of Wollongong’s Sustainable Building Research Centre, Degnan has additionally overseen the first commercial implementation of a novel air-entrained concrete consisting of reclaimed glass dust (a waste product from the glazing industry), foaming agents, and C-grid glass fibre reinforcement.

The Towradgi project has also undertaken numerous community-based initiatives. Notable amongst these are the empowerment of local Indigenous designers and artists from Coomaditchie for urban design inspiration and landscaping artwork, emphasis on local supply and employment, and the introduction of an adult change table as per community request during planning.

Special thanks once again to Coomaditchie and Design Inc. for their cooperative efforts toward the project’s Urban Design. Degnan would also like to extend its appreciation to TfNSW, who have overseen the Towradgi Station Upgrade, in conjunction with the greater TAP3 program.
