Bowral Station – Easy Access
Degnan delivered the design and construction of accessibility upgrades at Bowral Station, improving movement between platforms and providing safer, more accessible facilities for customers. The works combined new lifts, a footbridge and upgraded station amenities with sensitive refurbishment of the station’s existing heritage elements
Improving Station Accessibility
The upgrade included two new brick and structural steel lift towers with glazed screens, a new steel footbridge with anti-throw screens, and new stairs. Degnan also coordinated the lift installation as part of the design and construction contract.
At platform level, works included regrading and asphalting, tactile indicators, accessible toilet facilities and a new car park with designated accessible parking
Supporting Essential Infrastructure
In addition to the station accessibility and heritage works, Degnan completed a power upgrade to support the new infrastructure. The combined works delivered improved access and facilities while preserving the established character of Bowral Station.
Respecting the Station’s Heritage
The project balanced modern accessibility requirements with the character of the existing station. Degnan completed heritage refurbishment of the existing stairs, along with reroofing and heritage repairs to the station buildings.
Delivering in an Operational Environment
Bowral Station remained fully operational throughout construction. Degnan planned and staged the works to minimise impacts on train and bus services, customer access, parking and vehicle movements.
Temporary facilities and access arrangements were maintained for customers and station staff throughout delivery, allowing station operations to continue safely while the upgrade progressed.
